Stand Up To Cancer

Led the transformation of Stand Up To Cancer through building a scalable, sustainable revenue model and leveraging the brand to advance innovative initiatives across broad constituency groups.  Collaborated with teams and key stakeholders to draft and launch a comprehensive strategic roadmap for the organization.  Expanded corporate partner engagements, peer to peer fundraising and created new omni-channel fundraising campaigns.  Increased monthly donors by over 225% YOY and tripled the number of active donors.  Delivered the highest ROI biennial telecast revenue in the organization’s history in show that aired across 50+ major network and streaming channels.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital / ALSAC, Memphis, TN

Provided vision and strategic leadership for one of the largest pediatric healthcare nonprofit organizations in the world, translating CEO and Board priorities into actionable tactics to drive $2.5 Billion in annual revenue to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Served as key thought leader on the transformation of the organization and led initiatives to leverage St. Jude’s brand equity, data and technology to scale and optimize revenue growth on new and emerging platforms.  Formed new division in response to COVID pandemic challenges focused on virtual and hybrid events, new ventures, gaming and innovation. Co-created investment optimization model with CFO that helped fuel record-breaking revenue growth. Direct P&L responsibility for $1.3 Billion annual direct marketing program in 2019.  Served on CEO creative review committee for all St. Jude DRTV/video, digital and radio creative assets.

Shriners Hospitals for Children, Tampa, FL

Served as executive leader of global fundraising operations for one of the largest pediatric specialty healthcare systems in the world with affiliates that included 22 hospitals, 176 clinics and more than 300 telehealth locations. Led branding efforts through DRTV, digital and other integrated marketing channels resulting in SHC being named #1 Health Nonprofit and #1 Most Trusted Health Nonprofit by the Harris Poll – for the first time in it’s 96-year history. Built national headquarters team from 7 to 42 employees, with an additional 65+ hospital field staff, and implemented innovative fundraising programs and campaigns resulting in unprecedented growth for SHC over the past three years:

Increased donation revenue by 225%, raising over $900M in 3 years

Accelerated digital fundraising program from $5M to over $40M

Built monthly sustainers program from zero to 150,000 recurring donors and growing daily

Increased direct mail donors through aggressive acquisition strategy from 93,000 to 715,000+

Built national planned & major giving team, increasing hospital-based giving from $34M to $73M

Completed $130M Capital Campaign for new hospital in Quebec, Canada

Personally closed 7-figure cash and planned gifts including naming opportunities and endowments

Cultivated celebrity and VIP donor engagement at PGA FedEx Cup golf tournament, and NFL, NHL, MLB and

NASCAR connected events. Completed capacity analysis for $1.5B capital campaign. Created and implemented performance-driven metrics, infrastructure and continuous improvement processes. Manage $65M vendor and agency contracts, driving efficiencies, innovation and outcomes tied to organization’s strategic plan.

August 2013 - April 2015
President & CEO
University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Foundation, Lexington, Kentucky

Orchestrated comprehensive advancement strategy within a large scale NCI-designated matrix cancer center collaborating with key hospital leadership, university development officers, clinical staff, researchers and donors.  Rebranded 36-year-old foundation resulting in significant increase in social media engagement and diversifying donor mix.  Created portfolio of over 200 highly rated major gift prospects; increased annual fund prospects from 5,000 to 22,000 and added 1,176 new donors including many from out of state.  Worked collaboratively with clinical and research staff on seven and eight-figure proposals for research and endowment funding including successful $7.2M grant from Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation.  Closed multiple major gifts and developed 5-year strategic plan for growing the Foundation’s endowment from $13M to $50M.

July 2006 - April 2013

Global Shelter Systems / Hesco BlastBloc, Ft. Thomas, Kentucky

Co-founded and managed all aspects of business focused on developing breakthrough anti-IED technology for the global military and homeland security markets.  Full P&L responsibility.  Raised $2.3M in capital to take advanced material science product through R&D, rigorous DOD testing and into manufacturing and deployment.  Created branded product and directed global sales and marketing; negotiated complex government contracts worth up to $1B.  Led successful exit event to world market leader Hesco Bastion, Leeds, United Kingdom.

March 2003 - June 2006

Reported directly to the University President and served as lead major gift officer, cultivating, soliciting and closing major gifts.  Facilitated 5-Year Strategic Plan for University Advancement division and launched new initiatives in alumni relations, annual fund, scholarship programs, planned giving, and stewardship.  Increased major gifts by over 1500% in two years; closed $1M from Amgen Foundation, worked on $25M Migrant Worker Health proposal and served as lead gift officer on $60M John Spoor Broome Digital Library.

Handled new business development, due diligence and sales for investment banking firm with $3B transaction portfolio.  Managed portfolio of high net worth clients.  Raised $4M for early stage medical device company, participated in sale of $25M high-tech telemedicine company to major public healthcare company.  Worked with early stage life science companies and University of Florida Office of Technology Licensing to match corporate partners and funding sources to facilitate commercialization of intellectual property created at UF.

For three (3) years, provided leadership, design and implementation of professional development programs for hundreds of University employees in one of the nation’s largest university systems.  Managed major training events while creating model for employee development aligned with organizational effectiveness needs and SACS Accreditation requirements.  Worked with deans and faculty on needs assessments and performance metrics.  Formed cross-divisional team as part of University Strategic Enrollment Initiative resulting in 17% increase in enrollment the first year.  Appointed by University President to serve as Director of Employee Relations; worked with legal team to resolve employee issues and ensure State and Federal compliance.
